GanttHive Contribution system
GanttProject is an opensource world creature. In this world, everybody can contribute to the project. However, we don't expect that every GanttProject user is a java expert. We even know that most of you are not programmers at all. Neverthless, there are many ways to contribute even for those people who are far from programming
Why you may want to contribute?
First, your contribution makes GanttProject better. And moreover, your contribution allows you to influence the development: now it is you who defines the future of GanttProject
How is your contribution measured?
We measure your contribution in contribution units also called cells. Honeycells :)
How to earn cells?
Everyone who participated in GanttHive survey automatically gets 3 cells. And you can earn more!
Currently we give cells for bug reports, interface translations and holiday calendars and for money donations. To earn cells, you can:
- Submit a bug report. If your bug report is good, is not a duplicate and finally gets accepted you earn 5 cells. Usually we accept or reject bug reports in a couple of work days
- Translate GanttProject interface to a new language. It gives you 40 cells when your translation is commited by us to version control system
- Update an existing translation in a new version of GanttProject. It gives you 15 cells when your translation is commited by us to version control system
- Submit a calendar of public holidays in your country for next 2-3 years. It gives you 10 cells when your calendar is commited by us to version control system
- Donate some money through SourceForge donation system. You get as many cells as dollars you donate after we receive the donation.
Important notice: bug reports and donations (and translations/calendars, if you are using patch tracker) are bound to your SourceForge account which is different from your GanttHive account. If you wish to get cells for artifacts submitted on SourceForge please send us a matching of your accounts. Just login to SourceForge and send me a mail from this page: https://sourceforge.net/sendmessage.php?touser=162766 Something like this: "Hi, GanttProject guys, I would like to get cells for my bug reports and donations. My GanttHive account is XXXXXXX"
We plan to introduce more ways to contribute in the future.
How to spend cells?
- You can spend them for voting on big features to be implemented in the next major version of GanttProject. See the details on the voting page
- We also plan to introduce some additional services which may be payed with cells
Where can you see your contributions?
They must automatically appear soon on your user pages on GanttHive. If they don't, just edit your user page (you may do it right now) and add a single tag:

Currently we show only the total number of your cells and details of the last five contributions
Will we count your previous contributions?
Yes. If you have been submitting bug reports or translations and would like to get cells for those contributions, just mention them in a mail from SourceForge (see note above)
